Respect is Listening
You may hear someone speaking. But listening is much more than just letting another person talk while you wait for another chance to speak. This module explores our most valuable, and least properly used, communication tool: good and effective listening. As a group, participants will identify how they currently listen, and then discuss and practice the skills of active listening and empathetic listening with each other. Participants will learn skills they can apply immediately in everyday life.
- It is recommended to attend this module before any other of Respekt’s modules.
- This module is a great choice for parents and middle- or high-school age children to attend together.
Valuing Respectfulness
What are values? What values do you think you have adopted? How do you live your life through those values? Youth participants will discuss these and other questions. Adult participants will additionally learn how to help children determine the values that are important to them and how to offer opportunities for their children to practice learned values.
- It is recommended to attend this module after Respect is Listening and before all other modules.
Be a Respectful Leader
Successful leaders are made, not born. In this module, participants will experience different leadership styles, problem-solving techniques and communication methods. Understanding conflict, assessing and managing group stress, increasing group morale and the need for self-assessment will also be addressed.
- Attend this module after attending Respect is Listening and Valuing Respectfulness
Leaving a Respectful Legacy
Each and every one of us leaves a legacy through our actions and inactions. Participants in this module will discuss the criteria for a meaningful mission, develop a vision for who they are, and acknowledge the challenges of expressing one’s values. These values will then be recognized as the foundation of the actions and inactions we choose in our daily life. In addition, those values are the traits of good leadership and empowerment. Through all of these steps, the participants will recognize that their vision can be transformed into their legacy.
- It is recommended to attend this module after Respect is Listening and Valuing Respectfulness.
Building Teams with Respect
Whether at work, among friends, in a volunteer committee, or a child’s athletic squad, how do you turn a group of individuals into a successful team? Participants will develop the ability to recognize the process a group goes through to become a cohesive team. You’ll learn how to foster each step in the process, how to deal with changes in group morale, and how much interaction the “leader” should have in each step.
- It is recommended to attend this module after Respect is Listening, Valuing Respectfulness, and Be a Respectful Leader
Respecting Change
It may be said that the only constant in this world is change, but that doesn’t make it any easier for people to deal with it. In this module, participants will examine the value and benefits of both personal and organizational change, as well as develop the skills to lead change successfully.
- It is recommended to attend this module after Respect is Listening and Valuing Respectfulness.
Respecting Differences
Diversity training doesn’t have to be full of pain, shame, guilt or blame. We know that we’re all different, but how do we deal with those differences? How can we incorporate those differences into our teams, organizations and communities for the betterment of all? This module helps participants recognize and be responsive to differences, while learning how to acknowledge individuals for who and what they are, as well as what they contribute.
- It is recommended to attend this module after Respect is Listening, Valuing Respectfulness, and Respecting Change.
Respecting Inclusiveness
This module takes participants beyond respecting differences by dramatically experiencing what it means to be welcomed into and treated equally by, or being left out of, a group. Participants will learn simple behaviors that lead to incorporating the perspectives and contributions of all people in your group.
- It is recommended to attend this module after Respect is Listening, Valuing Respectfulness, Respecting Change, and Respecting Differences
